Miss Universe 2021 Harnazz Sandhu reacts to being trolled for weight gain, says "she has suffers from celiac diesease, an immune reaction to eating gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye". What is Celiac disease?

Celiac disease is an immune reaction to eating gluten protein, which found in barley, rye and wheat and also known as celiac sprue or gluten-sensitive enteropathy. Over time disease creates inflammation that damages the lining of small intestine and lead to malabsorption (prevents absorption of certain nutrients).

According to researchers very few people with disease get the right diagnosis because the damage to intestine is very slow and symptoms are so varied. 

Symptoms of celiac disease?

As we told that symptoms of celiac disease are so varied, but there are some common symptoms that mostly patients feels it when they accidentally eat something with gluten in it.

Symptoms in Adult:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloating
  • Joint pain
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Gas
  • Heart burn
  • Fatigue
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Nausea

 Symptoms in children:

  • Bloating
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting or upset stomach

Causes and Risk factor of celiac disease

Experts has not found a definite cause of celiac disease. It might be linked to certain genes and may runs in family.  

Celiac disease is common in Caucasians (people having European ancestry) and the one who suffering from following disease:

  • Turner syndrome

Complications of celiac disease

If celiac disease is not diagnosed on time or left untreated then it may likely to develop some another complications, like:

  • Infertility and miscarriage
  • Cancer
  • Lactose intolerance 
  • Malnutrition
  • Pancreatic disease
  • Weak bone and damages enamel

Treatment 

Currently there is no treatment of celiac disease, the only thing that you can do is change your diet and try to avoid foods that are made with grains.
