Dementia is mental condition, it is not a specific disease but a group of some condition which characterized by impairment of at least two brain function like, impaired ability to remember, make decision, thinking which interferes daily activity.

The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer's, it accounts 60-80% of all dementia's cases.

Dementia Symptoms

  • Loss of memory
  • Confusion
  • Difficulty in communication
  • Difficulty in handling complex task
  • Difficulty with co-ordination and motor function
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Hallucinations
  • Difficulty speaking and expressing thoughts
  • Taking a longer time to complete normal daily task
  • Losing balance and problems occurs in moving 

Risk factor of Dementia

  • Poor heart health
  • Brain injury
  • Family history
  • Age
  • Race

Dementia Causes

  • Excessive consumption of alcohol or long term drug use
  • Depression
  • Due to certain disease like, Alzheimer's disease, dementia with lewy body, Parkinson's disease.
  • Brain Infection
  • Certain types of hydrocephalus
  • Thyroid problems
  • Deficiency of vitamin

Dementia Type

  •  Alzheimer's disease- it is the most common type of dementia , which caused by changes in the brain, like abnormal buildup of protein in the brain. 
  • Frontotemporal dementia- It mostly occur in people who are younger than 60 and it is very rare type of dementia, it is associated with buildups of proteins tau and TDP-43. 
  • Vascular dementia- As the name depicts it is caused by vascular abnormality, like damaged blood vessels or interrupt the flow of oxygen to the brain that cause dementia.
  • Lewy body dementia- This type of dementia occurs due to abnormal accumulation of protein alpha-synulein, called as lewy body.
  • Mixed Dementia- It occurs when dementia caused by combination of two or more type of dementia.
